Hyperpigmentation Management - Overview

The most common inflammatory trigger is UV radiation, which normally triggers a general increase in pigmentation production so we become more "tanned." However, our internal bodily controls restrict over-production of melanin. When these control mechanisms are not at their peak, such as when pregnant or later in life, melanocytes may ‘break free’ of these restraints and over-produce pigment, causing the following conditions:

  • Melasma
  • Chloasma
  • Pregnancy Mask
  • Liver Spots
  • Age Spots

Such discoloured skin occurs in areas that have the greatest inflammation exposure, such as the face, hands and arms. Often, one may suffer varying levels of darkening in different areas due to over-exposure to the sun. This is often in bonier parts, where the UV is ‘reflected’ back off the underlying bones which can have an enhanced inflammatory effect.

Changes in skin colour can also result from other situations. For example, inflamed acne may result in dark spots after the acne clears. Other inflammatory causes are perfumes, hair removal, injuries and burns, including some surgeries.

THIOSPOT®

To Manage Age-Defining Hyperpigmentation

post acne pigmentation

Thiospot® is a combination of three medically-proven ingredients which slow down excess melanin production. Newly produced skin cells take in less pigment as a result, so this newer, lighter skin can rise to the surface to replace older, darker skin with no bleaching.

Thiospot® has an anti-inflammatory agent to encourage the reduction of inflammatory triggering as well as an organic-based sun filter which is non-irritating (non-inflammatory) to cell membranes, unlike standard sun filters. Lastly, Thiospot® gently increases the rate of skin-shedding, speeding up the rate that new, lighter skin cells migrate to the surface replacing the old darker skin cells.

HYDRATIME® & NUTRITIME®

Lipid Boosting and Water Binding

lipid boosting water binding

Hydratime® and Nutritime® are ideal for use in any hyperpigmentation protocol due to their properties in hydrating the skin to produce a lenitive effect. This means that the skin is able to draw in the active ingredients in Thiospot® more efficiently and easily, leading to a more profound result with less complications.

LIPOACID®

Free Radical Scavengers To Relieve Oxidative Stress

retinol a cell turnover

Exposure to free radicals generated from a whole host of environmental factors (UV radiation in particularl) can trigger an inflammatory response which may lead to changes in pigmentation in certain Fitzpatrick types.

Lipoacid® is designed as a highly active scavenger of free radicals thereby combating the build up and creation of oxidative stress in the skin as a result of external and internal influences. Alpha Lipoic Acid is a highly potent (if not, the most active) free radical scavenger. Unchecked, free radicals lead to early skin cell death and can trigger pigmentation.

Lipoacid® also fights the causes of aging and helps maintain and promote healthy, youthful skin. It also has a firming affect on the skin by increasing the skin cells water holding potential. The ingredients help fix water in the surface skin cell layer and enhance moisture loss control.

TERPROLINE®

Skin Healing, Recovery and Scar Prevention

acne scarring skin damage

Terproline® increases skin resistance to inflammatory melanocyte triggering and also prepares the skin by speeding up the processes which make new skin cells and also supplies the raw materials, to deliver a greater and longer lasting response to collagen stimulating treatments.

SUNWARDS®

Sun Protection with Built-in Anti-Erythema Agents

anti-reddening sun screen

Sunwards® is a new form of sun protection and sun block, specifically designed for people with sensitive skin but suitable for all skin types. The Synchroblock® technology in the Sunwards® system prevents the absorption of chemical filters into skin cell walls, keeping them in the cream matrix, thus reducing the risk of inflammation (which may lead to increased pigmentation), while still producing an effective ultraviolet radiation screen.

Sunwards® also contains redness-resisting chemicals, which reduce the reddening and inflammatory impact of UV (thus reducing the chance of pigmentation changes) and also calm the skin and reduce the skin’s reaction to UV. Sunwards® protects you from UVA and UVB rays but doesn't irritate the skin, allowing you to enjoy the sun naturally. Sunwards® is also water resistant.
